Geib Buttercut

Geib Buttercut Buttercut.com has been making the world's best grooming scissors for over 45 years . . Before the appearance of the online store Scissors DutyFree, it was impossible to buy Geib scissors in Eastern Europe at a direct American price. Even Western European buyers prefer to order the scissors from us as they do not have to pay internal VAT and other taxes.

Geib Buttercut is a traditional "family" factory and a world famous brand. The company was founded in Florida in the 70s and it was its owner, Edward Gabe, who in his time came up with scissors for grooming. Scissors are of very high quality material, this is Gabe's "chip". Many brands have a modern design or a better finish, but the price / steel ratio in Geib Buttercut is always higher.

history of the company

Geib Buttercut was founded over 45 years ago when, in the past, schoolteacher Edward Geib returned from his 12-year business trip from Japan. In Japan, he worked in almost all factories belonging to world famous brands such as Kasho, Joewell, Azuma or Matsuzaki.

Back in the US, Edward opened Buttercut LLC and began producing scissors based on his Japanese experience. In the process, he works as a sharpener for the Japanese Azuma in the United States. In personal correspondence, Edward indicated that his mentor in sharpening the tool was Richard Mangold, who worked in Solingen, Germany and was an expert at Circa1920, which made hairdressing scissors and scissors for barbershops in those years. Let me remind you, grooming scissors still didn't exist.

In 1978, Edward made his first production shears, called Super Phil, from Swedish steel. He described the laborious process of hand forging, so -

We forged the blades for these scissors by hand using a two pound hammer, a five pound hammer and a coal forge. Each blade was formed and pressed from 350 to 700 hammer blows on the blade ... hellish labor, considering that there are two blades in the scissors, while additional coal from the forge is added to them, when each blade is reheated at least ten times along with hand forged.

Later, the company released its famous forged katana, which was later replaced by the original one, where the canvas was cut from a sheet of steel. Geib's assortment includes no less than 30 lines of scissors, which usually contain all types, from straight to finishing scissors. Now the production of canvases - cutting from sheets, shaping the surface of the support and honing - has been brought to the Asian market, but sharpening and assembly still takes place at the factory in Orlando.

Geib Buttercut. Scissors, clippers and knives for grooming
The most recent model, Edward Gabe released in the current 2019, is a scissors called Yoshi. This is a traditional Japanese style scissors with offset and straight handles. Their feature is a flat canvas, the so-called Utsumi style. In 2018, Gabe delighted us with a new series of massive, thick-toothed shankers, better adapted to work with solid wool, the steel Monster and the cobalt Brutus. The specific 8.5-inch Powercut and Showfinish scissors were also released. Their feature is a special patented form of the lower leading blade, some were made in a semi-convex sharpening for cutting wool, the second in a full convex for polishing. The model range has been supplemented with a novelty in 2018 - Wave 38-tooth curved thinning shears. Edward is very proud of these scissors and assures that there are no analogues to them.

Of course, the whole world knows Geib as the creator of the first grooming scissors and a company that monitors product quality and keeps up with market trends. But Gabe also makes A5-standard grooming knives that match, and most likely surpass, other traditional brands in the area - Oster, Wahl, Andis and Moser. Knife blocks, called Geib Stainless, have a huge following worldwide. It will be fair to recall the fact that in 2015, Gabe offered the market new knife blocks called Geib Gator, they were envisioned as a budget option or an alternative to the traditional ones. The experiment was unsuccessful, the quality was worse, and the company recalled the new blade units. Nonetheless, Geib Stainless remains a very decent A5 standard knife set.

In 2015, Geib Buttercut also began selling grooming clippers and trimmers. For more than a year, dealers, knowing about the start of sales, could not receive the goods, since Edward insisted on additional testing and, indeed, the expectation was justified - the cars turned out to be very worthy. We do not know how in other countries, but in 2018 about 80 Geib BC-500 machines were sold in Ukraine and they did not have ANY WARRANTY repair (and the warranty was given for 12 months). This is an indicator that is hard to believe, since machines are often used in harsh conditions, they cut tangles, a large number of animals per day, etc. But this is a fact, since we are the only Geib sellers in Ukraine.
